Romantic Story

His Fingertips Trailed Down My...

The warmth of his breath is hotter then the night's summer air around me. He here standing behind me, waiting for my response. What am I to say to such an offer? A lady would never reply yes, but a lady was not what he wanted. Within  me she is here somewhere. The woman who can be seductive, playful, and teasing, all while remaining in control of the passion growing inside for him that had been long lost. To not let him see this side is part of the game. But how am I to shield him from seeing it in my eyes?

Remain standing with your back to him. He is but inches away. I hear nothing other than his long breaths waiting on me. What am I to do? I feel the soft spray of it drifting down over my neck. Closing my eyes I smell the strong scent of his essence all around me hanging in the air. I want to bury myself within it, within his arms, but I mustn't. He wants nothing more then just this night. I cannot possible do this.

   "Do you?" he whispers.

I have forgotten the question. "Do I what?" She replies with a playful tone as she turns her head slightly over her right shoulder.

"Do you want to know how I would seduce you? There is no harm in telling you. If then afterwards you desire me to show you, I may be persuaded to do so," He said in a low tone that was teasingly pushing against her bare neck. He watches her soft ringlets of hair move with his every breath onto her skin.

Does she have any idea what her smile does to a man? Those lips. The way those long lashes of hers tantalize thoughts of the impurest kind. The visual image she provides while she walks about a room is...is nothing more than torturous. Hips slowly swaying. Delicate movements of her shoulders as she stands before me laughing.

His finger moves up towards the back of her neck. She takes in a deep breath and he stops realizing she is not his to take. She is untouchable. Promised to another years before they had even met. He had nearly ruined her once and yet there was no one around to stop him from attempting it again. A foolish boys actions caused him to be banished. After all these years away she is the one thing he held to. The only desire he has never let go of. She and she alone is the sole reason for his return.

"I think I must take my leave now." Her voice was barley a whisper in the dim lite room. She squeezed her eyes closed and prayed he would not persuade her otherwise and yet wished he would do nothing but take her.

"You think? To me that sounds unsure."

She hears only a hushed murmur of sound coming from him and then what followed was nothing more than the withhold of a forbidden touch as his fingertips trailed down her neck.

The softness of his touch forces my body to acknowledge his absence as I lean into it. An unwilling motion to stop it renders me helpless underneath his spell. Strong firm fingertips caress my exposed skin tantalizing every sense within me. Slowly and teasingly, he draws out of me what has for so long laid dormant.

Awakening is the woman I've never known. This stranger wants nothing more then to allow his desires to over take me. An unfamiliar feeling of freedom arises with a single stroke of his fingertip. A deep seeded addiction to the way his skin feels on mine is consuming my every thought. This erotic creature inside me is clawing her way out hidden in the depth of what I tried to deny.

Lust, passion, and seduction plagues me with promises of fulfillment. As his fingertips trail down the back of my neck his wicked tongue lingers after it. Hot moist breath skims over past his lips to meet my bare neck acting as a hypnotic mist steadying my trembling body.

I need salvation from this. I want release from his wicked graze across my naked skin. He draws out of me a panting that is tainted with sinful thoughts.

His mouth taunts my flesh. His hands rip at my resistance. In a moment of surrender my clothing finds it's way to the floor. Puddled around my bare feet lay the only wall of safety I held. The woman who I thought to be so strange within me is now here. A heightened sense of passion is all I feel in this moment as the unwillingness to want him gives way to the buried desire for him, for his touch.

The Temptation of a Kiss ~ Chapter 6

Chapter 6

Landon drew back the curtains and opened both windows. The night air was cool and blew in as a slight soft breeze. A new candle had been lit next to Brook’s side of the bed on the table. It offered light if she was to be sick again.

He removed his coat and tie hanging it over the chair to the dressing table. He then sat and took off his boots. Sitting at the other side of the room he stared at Brook. She looked beautiful in the candle light. The maids had taken her hair out of her pins. She was far more beautiful with her hair cascading down around her than he had thought she would be.

Landon chuckled quietly to himself. The thought of pampering a woman and not receiving anything for it amused him. He had never done it before. Who is really the fool? You are going to lay in a bed all night long with a gorgeous woman and only take care of her while she is ill.

After a moment he took a rag with cool water and lay next to her on the bed. Landon lifted the covers and then let them fall back against her body. He let out a loud chuckle.

“Why on earth is she not dressed in anything other than her undergarments?” Landon raised his eyes to the ceiling. “Is this a test?” He asked out loud.

He let out a sigh. Pulling back the covers he managed to get her arms out and place them a top of the thick quilt. Gently Landon laid the cool cloth to her forehead. She was cool and clammy. Removing the cloth for a second he blew softly at her moist skin across her damp forehead.

She still had no coloring in her face and lips. Landon whispered, “Brook.” She did not answer him. He dipped the cloth and then placed it on her throat wiping away the sweat on her neck. “Hey Red,” he whispered into her ear.

Brook stirred slightly making an m sound.

“Red do you want some water?”

She mouthed no. Landon blew on her neck and then her face. Brook turned her head slightly in his direction.

“I know this feels good Red.” He blew on her neck again. Landon reached over and pulled up her hair off her shoulder. He blew softer this time as he leaned in closer. “Do you like it here Red?”

Brook licked her dry lips slowly. Landon placed the cloth to her neck and creased her skin to her shoulder. He trailed behind it with his breath.

She could feel how close he was to her skin. The room was still pinning and she wished it wasn’t because she wanted nothing more than to turn to him and kiss him again. His breath was cool but the heat of his mouth close to her felt hot.

Brook felt her own breath begin to deepen and she had no control over it. The tingling she was beginning to feel was moving all over her body.

“Do you want me to stop Red?” Landon’s voice was so soft slow and deep. It caused her to shiver next to him. Her breathes coming into her lungs were slow but they left her with gust.

Landon ran the cloth across her collar bones to the other side of her neck. Leaning further up on his elbow, he bent over across her and blew on Brook’s neck.

He felt Brook’s fingers rest on top of his finger tips on the bed and squeeze him gently. He paused and then whispered, “Do you want me to stop?”

Her throat was so dry but she managed to moan no. She heard him chuckle quietly above her. If she could talk she would have said more please everywhere more.

Landon watched her ever so slight facial expressions to his movements across her skin. He placed the cloth under her chin and moved down to the base of her neck.

“Shall I do it again here?” He repeated it moving a little lower this time to where the top of her chest started.

Brook let out a soft moan. Landon moved over the same spot again and blew on her softly. She tilted her head back a bit as she sighed from the sensation of it. Moving the cloth across her collar bone he pushed the strap of her gown down off her shoulder.

She squeezed his fingers and moved her head to the side inviting him to do whatever it was he wanted to do. Landon took her hand in his and kissed her neck. He pulled back and blew over the area where his lips just were. He repeated it under her chin, on her shoulder, and then again on her neck.

“Red can you open your eyes for me?”

Brook slightly shook her head no. She had the worst feeling if she had the room would spin so fast that she would again be sick.

The cool damp cloth touched her lips. It felt so good.

“I want you to drink some water Red and then you need to get some sleep,” he whispered to her.

Brook wanted nothing but him and his kisses. To hell with water and sleep. She tried to moan no but before she knew it he had her head lifted with a glass to her mouth. Brook coughed up the small sip she took. Her throat was too dry. He insisted she try again. It felt cool all the way down to her empty belly.

“Not too much. You’ll get sick again Red,” Landon said.

He grabbed the end of the thick quilt at her feet and pulled it up and threw it off the side of the bed. Touching her leg with the back of his hand she felt hot. He then lay down beside her with the cloth. He stoked over her skin until she eventually feel asleep.

Brook awoke the next morning curled up in Landon’s arms with her legs tangled in his. She remained still for nearly an hour listening to his heart beat. She did not want to move for several reasons. One she felt foolish for getting sick. Two because she did not want to wake him. And three, because she wanted to be in his arms. Brook knew this would never happen again.

She squeezed her eyes shut at that thought. How had this happened? When did this happen? What was that last night? I kissed him in a room full of people. How am I going to be able to face them or him this morning?

Landon opened one eye to see a room drenched in the morning sun. He quickly shut it. His hand brushed over the space on the bed next to him. The disappointment of empty space next to him made him think for a second.

You are seriously hoping to wake up to her in your arms. This is going too far now. Thinking about her when she is with me is one thing, but now, thinking about her when she is not with me. No this has to stop. Get up. Get dressed and find breakfast and if you happen to see her, pretend as if it was no big deal. She is just another woman. Nothing special.

The image of Brook’s long curly red hair in his hand flashed in his mind. He remembered how he caressed it between his fingers last night after he took in the scent of it. Dam it! Get up!

Landon followed the scent of bacon and ham to the breakfast room. All was in attendance but Brook.

“Oh my boy how is Brook this morning?” Grams shouted from the other end of the table.

“I assume she is well.” Landon took a plate and turned to the table of food. His stomach was hungry and could wait no longer.

“Landon my boy we all know you looked after her last night,” Gram said. “How could you not know of her condition this morning?”

He didn’t turn around. “She was already gone when I awoke this morning. I assume she is well because she was gone.”

Sarah looked to Grams and then to Devon. “Where did she go?”

Richards cleared his throat. “Lady Brook left early this morning.” He leaned closer to Landon at the table of food and said, “Wearing as little as a quilt I might add.”

   Landon’s gaze flew to Richards.

“What was that Richards darling?” Grams asked.

“I said, she was swearing she felt fit and I was glad,” Richards said.

Devon tilted his head slightly and gave Richards an odd look. It caught Richards’s attention and he glanced at him. He gave Devon the eyebrow and walked away. Devon pinched his lips together with understanding.

“Well perhaps you two ladies can look in on her after breakfast,” Devon said with a smile.

“I think I shall like to go now. Lord Price may I use your carriage?” Sarah asked.

Everyone at the table stopped and stared at her.

Richards stepped forward and said, “I will send for one right away Lady Sarah.”

Devon smiled at her. Rising from the table he offered her his hand to escort her outside.

Grams waited for the room to clear. “I want to ask you something my dear Landon. What are your intentions with Brook?”

Landon choked on his bacon. Grams stood up and went over to pat him on the back.

“I fear it is more my question than the bacon my boy. Take a drink of your coffee then you can answer my question.”

After managing to get the bacon down he turned to Grams who was now seated back in her place. “Your question is silly. The intention as you call it is…friendship. I aided a friend last night. No clothes were removed and I promise you she is still an innocent.”

“Well that is another subject entirely my boy but I do not want you adding her to your list of women to visit in the middle of the night,” Grams said.

   Landon laughed loudly at her.

Grams slammed her hand to the table and shouted, “I am an old woman Landon and you can not fool a fool boy.”

“You are neither old nor a fool Grams. Early spring flowers appear dull in your presence my lovely.”

Grams rolled her eyes. “Oh honestly Landon. You are too much for your own good. A menace to the society of young ladies and widowers.”

“Careful not to neglect the perfectly aged as well,” Landon said and then smiled devilishly at her. “I give my word we are merely close friends and nothing more.”

Grams let out a grunt. “I do not believe that for a second. She has had enough heart aches in her life Landon and I fear you will only add to that.”

Landon looked at her and paused for a moment. “Is this your true opinion of me? That I am some rake running around taking what I want.”

Grams gazed at him for a long while then broke the silence. “I see a mutual interest with you two. And sometimes that can cloud one’s judgment. She is beautiful Landon. And you…you are far too charming. I care about both of you too much to not be able to have you visit together if something were to happen.”

Landon glanced down at his coffee. “I understand Grams. Would it bring you comfort to know I care too much for you to allow that to happen?”

Grams smiled and said, “Immensely but I still do not trust that.” She stood up. “Well I’m off, the carriage is waiting.”

Landon stood and grabbed her hand and kissed it. “Give her my best will you?”

Grams squeezed his hand and said, “My fear is she has already had your best.”

Landon chuckled. “If that were true I assure you she would not have left this morning my lovely.”

Grams giggled. “You are truly wicked my boy.”

Landon realized he left his tie upstairs. The room was straightened up already with fresh linens on the bed. He walked over to the dressing table and found his tie in a porcelain dish. Lying next to his tie was Brook’s handkerchief. Landon picked them both up and placed them in his pocket.

He turned back and gazed at the bed. His mind drifted back to the night before and he could see her there lying in the candle light.

Short Story ~ Afraid To Fall ~ One Last Letter

Afraid to Fall

"One Last Letter"

Prolgue

Sitting alone in her room, the still of the night seems to engulf her. Black dark shadows of despair are fought off by a single lit candle flickering at her back. She can barely bring herself to gaze into her own reflection. "What have I done?" She whispers to the stranger in the mirror.

"Sinful things. Why do you ask...it can not be undone. He is gone with no hope of return. Romantic expression of nothing other than an impulsive desire, that is now, and everyday forth, never to return for you." A gasp from deep within escaped out of her. The reality of truth was more than she could handle. The feeling of loss was overwhelming. "One last letter to him. One more out pouring of my heart."

With trembling hands she begins to write.

Captivated By You and Afraid To Fall

My heart leaps with a pain from within somewhere unknown to me. The sudden realization of what I feel for you is paralyzing me. Breathless with fear, my hands find it's way to my chest, trying so hard to grip at this mysterious emotion. It struggles to no avail.

The thought of you invokes a surge of longing and need that up until now... I have never felt before for another. How did you find your way into my dreams? The struggle to push you out only intensifies the desire I fight to keep you close. Nothing shy of a wretched battle that collides with fierce force when in your presence. Dream or no dream you are here.

Your eyes wash over me and cascade down my body as if I were a feast for your hunger. Desperately I want to turn for you, from the gaze that burns through my clothing. It seeps into the deepest darkest desires of lustful passion I carry for you. Teasing me. Calling to me. Beckoning for me to draw near.

Do you see it? Can you sense it? Whispers of it float through the night air in the breeze to find you. Your name lingers upon my lips. The taste of you is desired within me. I sense your essence around me causing a stir of nervous excitement.

The ever so slight touch of your finger tip down the back of my arm is too much in the moment. A sudden fire from below rushes through my veins feeding my yearning for you. A toxic addiction I will not deny myself. Deep hushed undertones of your voice wrap around me, mesmerizing my ever sense to you.

I am afraid to fall. For it is you and you a lone I fall for. Every moment I breathe, I gasp to take you in deeper. An eager wanton to love you summons my fear to the surface. Love me.

Only for you I am. Only for you I will be. Only for you I love. Please come back to me.

Large tear drops fall to the bottomless abyss from with which they where created. Unfathomable anguish plagues her soul's delight. She gazes up once more into the truth of likeness before her a reflection she no longer recognizes. Candle light bounces about the room and sees an image of him behind her.

Chapter 1
A Forbidden Love.

With a torch in one hand, he took her hand in his other and pulled her towards the stairs leading down.

"Wait!" she cried. Gazing back to the guards quickly closing in on them, she had but moments to decide. Nervously clenching her night gown in her hands she squeezed her eyes shut. The pounding of the guards feet were drawing closer. "Missy," she heard him say. Opening her eyes she gazed down at him with breathless un decidedness. "Where are you taking me?" Missy asked him.

"Somewhere we will not be found, and you will be safe." He held out his hand to her once more. "Please Missy," his tone was deep and commanding. She could see fear in his eyes.

"I see her! This way!" One of the guards shouted.

If she didn't make a decision soon there fates will be sealed. "Conner," she whispered to him and placed her hand in his.

He smiled and said, "I would have taken you anyways. You know that don't you?" He watched her lips curl up in that tender way that had first caught his eye. A shadow of dark gray covered Missy before him. She screamed with surprise. Her hand left his and she was dragged away.

Conner felt his body falling backward and then an excruciating thud to his head. They must have tumbled down two flights of stairs before stopping in a mangled pile. Three of the four guards rose to their feet. The forth lay dead with a broken neck. "Take Lord Welling to his father," one of them said and then spit on Connor's feet. He pulled Connor's head up by his hair. "Ha, he shouldn't be any trouble now."

"And the lady?" one of the others asked.

"Secure her in the dungeon. I will deal with her shortly myself."

The others laughed wickedly. I need to get up. She needs me. He could not even manage to lift his own head up. Fighting the black silence that was coming for him was mute. Connor blacked out.

He found himself back at his father's home. A great gathering of friends and family came together to celebrate his older brother Garret’s engagement. He felt like he had not seen everyone in so long, it was odd.

"Connor, you will be next in line my friend," Ben patted him on the back. "It is good to see you again my friend."

"Ah," Connor said shaking his head. "Not any time soon. I am not Garret and have nil desire to marry just yet." He sipped his brandy. "I have heard throughout town you are back on the market."

Ben's lips pinched together. "I have to say Connor; I do not know what I was thinking last season. I mean we are not that advanced in years. So what is the rush?"

Connor lifted his glass to Ben's. "Well for now the heat is off me with Garret’s wedding, but I assume not for long. Between my father wanting to secure a male heir and my mother insisting someone give her a grandchild before she is too far in years, I'm going to disappear for about five years to the states."

Ben laughed. "Give me a heads-up and I will be sure to join you." The room began to buzz with loud whispers which grabbed Ben's interest. He nudges Connor and pointed to a small group of people standing in the doorway. "Is that not Heath Ashton?"

Connor recognized him well. "The older gentleman beside him is his father." He glanced across the room to try to catch his brother's attention. Garret was already headed towards the door with a smile on his face. Connor watched as his to be wife, Garret's fiancé, joined his side and greeted the group with warm welcomes. He gazed over to his own father in the corner with his mother. He appeared to be occupying himself with a few men in conversation, but could see his father had a watchful eye to the door.

"What is this all about Connor? Your two families hate one another," Ben said.

"Loath one another would be a more correct statement. I can only assume they are here for Garret's wife to be," Connor said.

Ben chuckled. "Theresa you mean."

"Who?" Connor turned to him.

"Your brother's soon to be wife-your soon to be sister-in-law," Ben said. "You do remember meeting her do you not Connor?" Ben ended with a chuckle.

"Yes I do. I just can't ever remember her name." Connor observed his brother and Heath leaving the room followed by Heath’s father, John Ashton. "Pardon me for a moment Ben," Connor said and walked in the direction his father was standing. He placed himself beside him. "Father," he said with a nod as his father glanced at his way with a stern face. Connor waited for the right opportunity to excuse them from the group. He noted his father's finger tapping against his glass. Connor knew he was agitated with the situation, but he also knew his father had to have given his permission for it as well. Garret never crossed his father on any matter.

Connor looked down at Miss Haggerty who at some point in time plopped down next to his mother on the chaise. His poor mother smiled with a wiry smile at Miss Haggerty and then Connor and back to Miss Haggerty. It had not yet been a month since Connor told old round Lady Haggerty to shut it…at the opera…in a singing opera voice as loud as he could, after a bottle of brandy filled his belly. If that was not enough to warrant an unpleasant visit to his mother, he then turned, grabbed Haggerty’s niece and kissed her hard and long. Followed only by an announcement to pluck her innocence like an apple from a tree.

Miss Haggerty rolled her eyes at him, so Connor gave her a little wink.

Beverly, Connor’s mother rose to her feet quickly. “My darling. I believe our son wishes to have a word with you.” The group fell silent.

He starred at his wife then said, “Pardon us gentlemen.” Connor walked with his father out through the French doors closing them behind him once they were out on the balcony.

“I presume this is about Ashton?” he did not give Connor a chance to respond. “Theresa is under the care of John Ashton. Not related in any way of course. But he has offered the Sunny Acer’s estate as dowry and your brother is finalizing the paper work as we speak.”

Connor chuckled. “Why now? I mean you have been trying for years to acquire those fields.”

“It is just business Connor. He has no use for it and all of the estates surrounding Sunny Acres are in my possession. I can only assume he came to the conclusion it is but a nuisance to own it.” His father turned to leave.

“Sunny Acres has been fought over for three generation between our two families and then suddenly he has no qualm about releasing it into your hands father?” Connor stood up straight and shook his head at him. “I don’t believe it.”

“You do not have to believe it son. You only have to accept it.” He then walked away.

Connor looked up at the night sky. The moon revealed only half of its self to the night. Every star flicked with a twinkle.

“Oh forgive me. I was not aware someone was out here.”

Connor turned upon hearing the woman’s soft sweet voice filled with surprise. The sight of her caught his breath momentarily. Her slender frame glided further out onto the balcony. “I do not mind,” he said. “The balcony is plenty big enough for us to share.” Connor could see she was trying not to give into a smile. He scuffed a line on the stone with his boot and then moved to the other side of the balcony. “That is the line that you are not allowed to cross.”

She pinched her lips together tight. “So this would be my corner over here.” She motioned to her left.

“Well you are not going to get both corners.” She smiled for him. “You do have to share.” Connor said. She let out a giggle at that. He gazed to her hand and noticed no ring upon her finger.

“I can share. I’m good at sharing,” she said and moved to her corner of the balcony. After a moment she gazed up. “Sometimes is looks as if the sky has been sprinkled with glitter.” She pointed up. “Night time is my favorite hours of the day.”

“I find that to be true for myself,” Connor said. He watched her gaze at the moon. “She is only half shy tonight.”

“I’m sorry?”

“Connor walked a little closer towards her. “The moon.”

She glanced back over to her left and leaned out on top of the balcony railing. “Oh, I see. Or you could say she is half daring tonight.”

“Are you a daring woman?” Connor asked with a devilish under tone. “Or are you shy?”

She glanced back at him as he drew even closer to her. “Perhaps both.” She twirled the fringe of her plum colored shawl around her fingers. A gentle breeze blew all the lose locks of hair around her check and chin.

Connor watched her tuck a few pieces of hair behind her ear. “Not at the same time I hope. That would be confusing for everyone around you.” He leaned on the balcony with his elbow. “Although very entertaining I might add.” It was hard for him to tell in the moon light what color her eyes were. Light green or blue he guessed. Her hair was so blond it nearly appeared white in the light.

She was still laughing as she walked over closer to where he stood.

“Ah, I expect that you remember and honor the line please,” Connor pointed down to their feet.

She looked down and drew her hand to her chest. “Oh dear, I nearly did forget about the line. Do forgive me. I do not know where my head has gone.” She gazed up to him with a shy smile. "I believe all this heat on my skin has me losing rational thought." She raised her hand to her check and slowly pulled back the hair that had come lose again. She watched him watch her. "This night air feels as if it is growing heavier and I seem to be having difficulty with coherent reasoning's." Her voice was so sultry she didn't even recognized it.

Yes, well, I had figured as much. This time I will over look the matter, but next time…well, I don’t know about next time but,” She laughed hard which made Connor laugh. “Let’s simply say next time there will have to be a reckoning so sorts.”

“A reckoning,” she repeated while still laughing.

“Yes…a…reckoning,” Connor said as he gazed at her. Her beauty is stunning. Blue-her eyes are light blue. God she looks perfect in every way. Who is she? I bet her name is as beautiful as her big blue eyes.

“My sincere apology. I pledge to respect the line from this day forth,” she said as she gazed up at him again. Your eyes are as dark as the night covering us. So mysterious and yet warm. I feel- He smiled at her breaking her train of thought. “Can I ask you a question?”

“Is it a difficult one?” Connor raised an eyebrow at her. She shook her head no. “You may then, but I retain the option whether or not I feel the need to answer.” She smiled wide at him. “Your smile is contagious.” She covered it with her hand. “This is shy you, right?”

She removed her hand resting it on her chest. “I told you sometimes I am.”

Connor said softly, “I like the shy you. What else makes you shy?”

She gazed down at her hand on the balcony. “Blurting out things I shouldn’t.”

Connor tilted his head at that. “Give me an example.”

She giggled. “Do you know Miss Haggerty?”

“A little too well,” Connor said. He was curious to where this was going. Did she know of what he had done?

“Ok, well, about a month ago she was at the opera, as I was with my cousin, and some man shouted for her to shut it, and then said he was going to pluck her nieces innocents. Well afterwards she would not stop talking about it. So in a room filled with people I told her it was about time because the woman was turning into a spinster and she might actually enjoy it. I then added it might drive the gloomy witch out of her.”

Connor covered his mouth but could not contain his laughter. She started laughing with him till tears ran down her face. “I think you and I are the only ones to find this funny,” she said to him.

Connor composed himself. “I must tell you something even funnier.”

“What?”

“The man who shouted those things was me!”

“What? No!” She hit his arm a couple of times as she laughed again. “I received an ear full for that one. My mother is still not speaking to me.”

“My mother did not know what to do with herself. My father on the other hand, well he sent me out to the country for the last month,” Connor said. “She is here you know, Miss Haggerty.”

She gazed up at him and said, “We should both be sure to stop and greet her before we leave this evening.” She shook her head up and down at him nodding yes.

“What?” he asked her with a smile. "My father would surly drive me out of the country."

“We are probably the only two people to ever insult Miss Haggerty. And we both did it within an hour of each other.”

“This is true. And to think, we both end up here, standing together under the half shy-half daring moon, talking about it.” Connor leaned back down on the balcony. “I have to say I’ve never met a woman like you before. I am glad you decided to come out here and share a balcony with me tonight.”

“So am I.” She gazed down at his hand on the balcony. “Please promise me you will go with me to pay our greeting to the old miserable hag.”

He chuckled and said, “Yes I promise. Now what was it you were going to ask me before?”

She giggled softly. “Oh you are causing my shyness to reappear.”

“After what you just told me.” He teased her. “Hey, not only do we now share a balcony we are forever bonded with Miss Haggerty. You cannot possibly be shy with me now.”

“No I suppose that’s true.” She paused. “What will you do if I was to cross the line?”

Connor leaned in closer. “That I have not yet decided.”

“Oh I see.” She looked out over the night sky. Slowly her foot slipped over the line and bumped his boot. He glanced down and back up at her. She had not moved her eyes from the sky. She slid her hand over the imaginary line of the balcony ledge. Her finger tips grazed his.

Connor chuckled. “A mire minor offence my lady.” He watched her smile widen. She took a big step and half way crossed the line.

Connor stood behind her and examined the position of her body verses the line. He walked back over to where he had been and said, “Well, now you look like the moon, half and half.”

She threw her head back and giggled. Connor took her in his arms. “Now I have you on my side and you can never go back.”

“I think I like it much better over here,” she said.

Connor kissed her with a tender touch. He felt no need to rush. It was as if he wanted the moment to last forever which was not like him. She ran her hands up into his thick black hair. He pulled her closer. “Oh you are definitely never going back over there,” he said through their kiss.

His hands slid down her back and cupped her bottom. She let out a soft moan and kissed him harder. She pushed him against the railing.

Connor broke the kiss. “This isn’t the shy half is it?”

“Shut it and kiss me,” she said. Connor laughed. He couldn’t help it. She was funny.

She slid her hands down and cupped his bottom. She whispered, “Your backside is firm.”
Connor grabbed her waist and said, “Ok not shy.” He kissed her neck and trailed his tongue down to her shoulder. He heard her take in a deep breath.

“Do I kiss bad? I have never done this before. Would you like to go into the gardens?” she asked him. “I know of a little house in the back of the maze. I use to visit her as a child.”

Connor stopped. “You haven’t and you what?”

“Yes I-

The French doors started to open and Connor flew six feet from her. Heath stood in the doorway.

He pointed to Connor. “You stay away from her Welling.”

“Welling?” she repeated.

Heath looked at her and said, “Let’s go Missy.”

“Missy?” Connor repeated.

Heath took her by the hand and started to pull his sister through the doors. She gazed back at Connor and he could see she was as shocked as he was.

Connor stood at the edge of the balcony. The last hours events running through his mind as he tried to make sense of it all. He looked at the doorway and strides towards it. He pulled the door open and stormed out into the room. "Ashton!" Connor screamed with brutal strength over the crowd below him. He pointed at Heath Ashton at the other end of the room.

Ashton stopped with Missy at his side at the threshold of the door and turned to face Connor.
